Before becoming a lawyer Stephen spent some 20 years in the insurance claims business, primarily as a loss adjuster. During this period, he dealt with most types of non-marine insurance claims with a particular emphasis on liability, construction and financial loss. His clients in the UK included utility companies and he defended a number of claims brought against Southern Water arising from burst pipes and damage to other utilities’ plant. His experience included three years working as a loss adjuster in the Middle East dealing with major infrastructure claims.
Stephen trained as a solicitor with Beale and Company and has carried out a range of company and commercial work, professional negligence, construction and engineering claims and general commercial litigation and dispute resolution work. He has also worked as an investigating lawyer at the Serious Fraud Office where he was responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases of serious and complex fraud.
Stephen now specialises in handling construction and engineering claims and related insurance disputes. His recent experience has included defence of an $80m dispute arising out of construction of a power station in the Philippines. Stephen also has experience in acting for clients in relation to HSE investigations and prosecutions.
