Peter started his legal career with East Hampshire District Council and in 1986 joined Thames Water as a litigation solicitor handling all areas of criminal and civil litigation. After a series of promotions, Peter became the legal services manager at Thames Water Plc between 1998 and 2001 where he managed the legal services for Thames Water in the areas of Environmental Law (including water resources and supply, waste management and disposal), Town and Country Planning, Employment and Litigation.

From 2001 to August 2004 Peter was the UK legal director of Thames Water Plc handling a varied range of company secretarial matters as well as the internal resources team at Thames of 12 lawyers.

Peter briefly left Thames Water in September 2004 to become a principal solicitor at The Environment Agency on a part-time consultancy basis. He returned to Thames in May 2006 to continue to act as a consultant and at the same time joined Beale and Company to act in a consultancy role.

Peter is also a non-executive director and legal advisor to the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
